Black Girl Magic Fellowship 2024

The Black Girl Magic Fellowship Program is a series for NYC/NJ-based girls and non-binary youth ages 13-19 centered on their development as writers, building their self-esteem, and addressing issues that matter most to them. We are excited to kick off the fourth year of this fellowship, curated by Urban Word Artistic Director & award-winning poet & author, Mahogany L. Browne.
Applications open on February 2nd and the deadline to apply is March 4th.

[UNTITLED] is a new 6-week poetry program brought to you by Urban Word, in partnership with the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. This spring, The Guggenheim, an 87 year old cultural landmark, opens its galleries to the Urban Word community for this innovative masterclass series where poetry and visual art converge. Throughout this series, 15 young writers will be invited to view the museum’s current exhibits and collections to find poetic inspiration, while learning the fine art of ekphrastic poetry under the tutelage of an esteemed facilitator and special guest artists.

Applications open on February 16th and the deadline to apply is March 7th.

Introducing Urban Word’s Mentor Pods, a personalized workshop experience designed for Urban Word youth looking to refine and expand their artistic repertoire. Participants are organized in “pods”, small, supportive groups meant to foster a collaborative and nurturing environment. The Mentor Pods go beyond traditional writing workshops, serving as a catalyst for personal and artistic development. An experienced Urban Word Mentor tailors each lesson to suit the needs of the participants, creating a space for individual growth.
Urban Word’s Mentorship Pods are a seasonal offering. To receive updates about future pod launches, follow us on Instagram @urbanwordnyc or subscribe to our newsletter.
